What is it about loneliness?

What is it about loneliness, that the best of us fear so much?

Is it the fear of waking up alone?

Or the possibility of having no one to talk to in the middle of a tearful night?

Why does it hurt to have no one to call your own?

So you've convinced yourself that you love living with your pet. Freedom and all that. Then why does the sight of your neighbour hand-in-hand with his wife bother you?

What is it that frightens you most about loneliness?

A lonely birthday? A solitary Christmas eve?

No friends to haul you out of an accident?

A call that will never come, despite waiting for it all night?

No shoulder to vent into? No one to wipe the tears?

No one to take a long walk on the beach with? To appreciate the wind in your hair?

Are you amidst a crowd, yet lonely?

Looking for a face that you call familiar? Is it the absence of that face what's bothering you?

Ah, I see what's troubling you.

The need of a hug, the want of a kiss, the pain of love.

Reminded Of Billy Joel's Lyrics of Piano Man:
And the Waitress is practicing politics.
While the businessman slowly get stoned,
Yes they're sharing a drink they call loneliness.
But its better than drinking alone.

There's no solution to loneliness except good company. Distractions like hobbies and obsessions have kept a romantically challenged guy like me away from trouble - in a sense, my somewhat geeky nature has helped me recover from broken relationships with a logical bent of mind. We ignore the nice people around us at times too - never loved my mother as much as I love her now, and didn't realize how valuable my dad is until I was far away from home with almost no hope of return for years on end.

Beautiful.

And this time, Moo, I could really do without the insulting remarks. Cheers!

@ Henna,
Thanks a ton for visiting. And bothering to leave a comment. :)

@ Lamont,
Silly man, did I say I was the lonely one? Just a random post from a slightly turbulent night. :)

@ Satinder,
It is a state of mind. But I'm sure it cannot be ignored. :)

@ Sakshi,
There isn't ever any doubt about you being there for me. Thanks for being around!

@ Anonymous,
Beautiful! Now I wish I could come up beautifully worded stuff like that. Thanks for dropping by.

@ Philramble,
True, that. But loneliness arising from having no one special around is so different from having people who are normally around for you. Now THAT loneliness isn't very easy to overcome.

@ Mugger Much,
This time, I won't say anything mean. Because I love the fact that you DO visit my blog and leave me comments that make me grin from ear to ear.

Much love. :)

Moooooooooooooooooooo! Calling out, to u, out of ur loneliness! But on other hand true, loneliness is one fear thats underrated, but then its lack of love, which is overrated! Where is the balance!

I have nothing profound to say to this, except that this post reminded me of a dialogue from the movie, Shall We Dance. You may find it horribly cheesy, but sometimes cheese is good, right? :)

We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'."

Leave out the marriage part and I think this dialogue is very near to the gospel truth.

In other news, my word verification is 'dookeses'. I think it's really funny.
