Just an iPod?

Watching an Aamir Khan movie every year is turning out to be jinxed. When things go wrong everytime you watch his flick, for three consecutive years, there has to be something wrong.

When I went to watch Taare Zameen Par in 2007, my sister and her fiance (now husband) met with a bad auto rickshaw accident.

Last year, when I went to watch Ghajini with Lammy, I lost my brand new Mango shades in the theatre.

Today, as I returned from watching 3 Idiots, I left my iPod Classic behind somewhere. And it's gone. Forever.

Most people think I'm being shallow and supremely materialistic (which I am), but that piece of technology was by far my most prized possession. It was the reason so many tedious, long drives became joyful and memorable.

It was my sole travel mate, steadily killing the mundanity (is that a word?) of traveling long hours. It kept me company when I was so damn tired after a hard day's work. When I was too tired to read, but had to stay awake, lest I missed my station.

It killed all unwanted sounds and conversation. We all know how important it is to tune out. And it helped me do just that. Tune out the frivolous banter in office, the ear-drum bursting sound of traffic, everything.

It made me fall in love. With music. With a man. With life. Don't ask me how. It just happened.

So many memories.

And you say it's JUST a piece of machinery?

It's never just a piece of machinery.

In college, I once carried around a piece of twisted metal that I called Lambda. Lambda was my friend. Lambda did not judge me. And then one fine day our hostel sweeper came to my room and threw it out.

Sigh. I miss Lambda.

Anyhoo, here's an iPod-specific hug and I hope you get over your bereavement.

And as for Aamir Khan, somebody shoot that bastard - he's ruined two consecutive Bollywood movie nights for me. Grrrr.

Also, it's mundaneness. I know, I know, I'm a bit of an ass.

I totally understand your feeling here. You see, I too am a materialistic gadget lover. Once my 1 month old cell phone got stolen from me in a Mumbai local. cried for hours & stayed home for a day. It was that depressing. But how did you end u losing it? If it gets robbed, that's not your fault but lose it? May I respectfully ask if you were a tad careless? Anyway iPod classics are pretty cheap. Maybe you can get a new one after you get out of mourning period.

Most of our possessions are never just another .. But, like everything else (that are so unfair in life) you shall get over this too..
And with all those memories that are so intricately wrapped around your prized piece of technology , your iPod .. it's most mysteriously making you fall in love with music, with a man and with life are now safely on a journey down the memory lane.
Say Adieu and move up (if not on).

As a first time reader, thought I must mention..a great blog..speaks volumes of your life and your perceptions about it..not just length. :)
